Markus is a locksmith and volunteer firefighter who has known his wife Ella since childhood. They live in a village in Brandenburg. Idyllic? Far from it. Markus meets the waitress Rose, and the quiet village becomes the setting for an intense love drama. Filmed with amateur actors, director Valeska Grisebach masterfully blends realism with melodrama.
