Three

Their relationship has worn a little thin over twenty years; Hanna works as an arts presenter in television. When she attends a meeting of the Ethics Council, she meets stem cell researcher Adam Born. At the same time, her husband Simon learns that he has testicular cancer. While Hanna and Adam grow closer and eventually spend a night together in the researcher’s apartment, Simon successfully undergoes the necessary surgery. A few weeks later, he meets Adam at a swimming pool – and the two men have a surprising encounter. Unsuspecting, Hanna and Simon continue their affairs with Adam – until the couple unexpectedly find themselves face to face in Adam’s apartment.

The final ménage à trois could be alienating. Yet the film has more edge and carries greater weight than many other German films which deal with relationship problems.
